3 circle Venn diagram maker

Type three lists and every item lands in the right one of the seven regions, from “only A” to the centre where all three overlap. No dragging text boxes around.

Two or three lines. Each line: a set name, a colon, then items separated by commas. Shared items land in the overlaps automatically.

How to make a 3 circle Venn diagram

  1. Write three lines, one per set: a name, a colon, then items separated by commas.
  2. Repeat an item in every set it belongs to; the tool places it in the right overlap.
  3. Check the region table under the chart to see exactly what is in each of the seven regions.
  4. Tick “Show counts, not names” for numbers only, then download.

Set notation, lit up

A = speaks English, B = speaks Spanish. Pick an expression to see which region it means.

ABAnaBenEliChenDevGilHugoJo

A ∩ B = { Chen, Dev }

A ∩ B is the intersection — in both A and B. Jo speaks neither, so Jo sits outside both circles.

The seven regions of a triple Venn diagram

Three overlapping circles make seven regions: three where an item belongs to only one set, three where it belongs to exactly two, and the centre where it belongs to all three. In set notation the centre is A ∩ B ∩ C, and “only A” is A ∩ B′ ∩ C′. The region table under the chart lists every one, so you can check homework answers or copy them into a report.

Counting with three sets

The size of the union follows the inclusion–exclusion rule: |A ∪ B ∪ C| = |A| + |B| + |C| − |A ∩ B| − |A ∩ C| − |B ∩ C| + |A ∩ B ∩ C|. The tool shows the union count so you can check the formula against your own data.

Questions

How do you make a 3 circle Venn diagram?

Write three lines, one per group, each with a name, a colon and the items. Items listed in more than one line are placed in the overlaps automatically, giving all seven regions.

How many regions does a 3 circle Venn diagram have?

Seven inside the circles (eight if you count the space outside all three): three single-set regions, three two-set overlaps and one centre.

What goes in the middle of a triple Venn diagram?

Items that belong to all three sets: the intersection A ∩ B ∩ C.

Can I make a Venn diagram with numbers?

Yes. Tick “Show counts, not names” and each region shows how many items it holds.

Can I make a 4 circle Venn diagram?

Not here. Four equal circles cannot show all 16 combinations, so a correct four-set diagram needs ellipses. For four or more sets an UpSet plot or a table is usually clearer.
